Training Agreement

We are looking forward to working with you!

Before you bring a dog to an event or training class, complete three steps:

3 Simple Steps

REGISTRATION POLICIES

Register online at https://www.alexandriapetcare.com/trainingandbehavior/   Once we confirm your space in a class, we will contact you with your confirmation and Alexandria Pet Care online account login instructions.

Payment:

Payment is due before we can confirm your place in a class (no exceptions). We accept personal checks, PayPal, and credit cards via your Alexandria Pet Care online account.

Cancellations and Refunds:

In order to get a full refund, cancel your registration 2 business days before the start date of the first class. No refunds will be granted after that date unless your veterinarian provides a note of a dog’s illness or injury that prevented participation, in which case your payment will be applied to future services: in-home dog training, future dog training classes, dog walks or pet sitting for clients in our pet care service area.

Class Transfers:

If our trainer suggests, or you need to, transfer to another class then you must request the transfer 5 business days before the start of class. No transfer requests will be granted after that date.

Missed Class Policy:

Once classes begin, missed classes will not be refunded.  Please speak with the trainer to see what topics and exercises were missed, and what you might work on at home outside of class to be ready for the next session.

Inclement Weather or Trainer Sick Day Policy:

If Alexandria Pet Care needs to cancel a class for inclement weather or trainer absence, then we will arrange a make up class by polling the registrants, and choose a make up date and time that works for the majority.

Drop-In Policy:

Dog owners can elect to drop in one time to a class, with a pre-registration and pre-payment. All other policies apply to single drop-in classes.

Vaccination Requirements:

Alexandria Pet Care requires that all dogs enrolled in a class be verified as up to date on their vaccinations. Puppies under 16 weeks of age are required to have at least one round of Distemper and Parvo (DHPP) vaccine. Adult dogs are required to have Distemper, Parvo, Rabies, and Bordetella. We must have a copy of your dog’s vaccination record on file.

CLASS OPERATING POLICIES

  • Classes meet at the scheduled time per week for 6 weeks (unless otherwise noted).
  • Dates listed on the schedule are start dates. You will meet on the same day and time each week.
  • Owners are expected to make a time commitment to participate in all classes. Training is most effective with full participation.
  • Please arrive at least 5 minutes before class and wait outside or in the lobby until called in for your class.
  • You will need a regular collar and 6 foot leash.  Harnesses and head halters are welcome.   Leashes should not have any attachments (keys, poop bags etc.).
  • You will need a lot of tiny, soft chewy treats that hold the attention of your dog. Or, appropriate small bite food treats that you know your dog will tolerate: hot dogs, chicken, freeze dried liver, string cheese etc.
  • Metal collars and tags need to be removed while puppies and dogs are socializing and playing.
  • Dogs must be supervised by an owner/handler at all times.
  • Dogs must remain on leash unless authorized by an instructor.
  • Handlers must clean up after their dogs and dispose of waste properly.
  • All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Children over age 8 or similar maturity are welcome to attend with their adult; please prepare them in advance not to approach other attendees’ dogs. Discuss with them ahead of class that we may cover canine training topics involving gender, mating, aggression, dominance, mounting, etc., and that normal dog play can be loud, unpredictable, and may include snarling, growling and barking.
  • No peanut foods, treats, or peanut butter products are allowed.
  • Unsafe or harsh handling of dogs is not permitted.
  • Retractable leashes are not allowed in class.
  • Dogs exhibiting aggressive or disruptive behavior such as barking, lunging, staring down or otherwise intimidating other dogs will not be permitted in class. If your dog is not ready for a group class, we reserve the right to dismiss him/her from class, and we’re happy to discuss one-on-one training in these cases. Pro-rated refunds may be available in this situation.
  • Intact female dogs over 6 months are not allowed in class. If your female goes into heat during your class session, talk with your instructor.
  • Make up classes are not available if you are unable to attend a class.  Please see your instructor to get information on what you will miss
