You work best when you’re in a good mood, your efforts are appreciated, and results are rewarded, right?  Your dog is no different!  If your household has a new puppy ready for a foundation of good habits, or a rescue new to your family, or some less-than-polite dog behavior issues to work through, then we can help you on the best path to your goals.

Rachelle, Our Trainer and Behaviorist

We’d love for you to meet Rachelle, our dog trainer and behaviorist here at Alexandria Pet Care. She comes to meet with you at home, and she’ll work with you and your dog together toward your goals for a happy life with your pup.

She works with a variety of positive training methods customized to fit many different kinds of dogs (and owners).  Whether you have a new puppy ready for a foundation of good habits, or a rescue new to your family, Rachelle can help you meet your goals for a happy life with your dog.

Rachelle’s training methods are the result of ten years of study and practical work in multi-layered positive reinforcement.  She draws from a  variety of techniques and helper tools, treat-based training, lure-reward methods as popularized by Ian Dunbar, the use of clickers in marker training as taught by Karen Pryor, and electronic collar training.

The approach she takes is holistic and tailored to help you, your pet, and your household work together in harmony.  She first works to understand your issues and wishes, then works with you on specific goals, identifies areas of miscommunication between you and your dog, and comes up with a tailored plan.

Typical work sessions include clearing the lines of communication so that your dog understands what is expected of them behaviorally, and so that you understand precisely how to teach them those expectations in a practical and consistent way.

Ultimately, she wants YOU to become your pet’s trainer for life through an understanding and application of the fundamentals of training.  Afterwards, you’ll be equipped to maintain the progress you make and to have the confidence to handle future issues appropriately.
